Rio Apurimac

From the steep switchbacks on the trail to Choquequirao, a lone tree overlooks the River Apurimac. The name of the river comes from Quechua, one of the ancestral languages of the Incas: Apu is a mountain light being and Rimac means voice, so the name of the river is essentially the voice of God. This was explained to me by the young man who led the mule carrying my backpack.
